You may recall that the first 403(b) regulations to be issued in over 40 years were published in proposed format by the IRS in December of 2004. Since that time many in the industry, including GuideStone, have submitted comments on the proposed regulations and have been anxiously awaiting the final version of the regulations.
The final version hasn’t been issued yet, but at a meeting in February of the District of Columbia Bar Taxation Section, Cheryl Press, IRS senior counsel, Office of Division Counsel/Associate Chief Counsel, Tax-Exempt and Government Entities, reported that the final 403(b) regulations should be out by June with an effective date in 2007. Cheryl Press is one of a group of people at the IRS working on finalizing the regulations.
Look for additional GuideStone communications in the future to preview certain items that may be in the final regulations that could have significant impact on the way 403(b) plans are operated.
